– Abstract:
Short presentation of the role of dates and date palms in oases, the diffusion of their domestic forms and their role in the very existence of oases as nodes of Saharan networks.
The catalogue extends and deepens the plurality of themes addressed in the exhibition “I eat therefore I am” (Musée de l’Homme, 2019), in the form of a dictionary with nearly 130 entries, written by researchers and scientists specialising from within and outside the Museum. This multidisciplinary primer book - agronomy, anthropology, archaeology, archaeozoology, biology, botany, genetics, ethnology, history, palaeontology, physics, etc. - is illustrated with a remarkable and little-known iconography, which gives pride of place to the collections of the Museum and the Musée de l’Homme, supplemented by those of other prestigious institutions (musée du quai Branly, MUCEM, Fondation Dapper, etc.) as well as private collections.
