This work resulting from a training in ecology is devoted to the anthracology (sciences of the study of charcoals, with a purpose of botanical determination), applied to the history of the landscapes. This thesis is interested in a methodology (and contributes to enhance it) which makes it possible to use the fauldes, traces of ancient places of charcoal burner’s clearings of the scrubland (guarrigue) of Languedoc (South France), in order to try to reconstitute the past forest environments and to explain their evolutions.
The fieldwork (the reconstitution of a charcoal burner’s clearing) was undertaken with Laurent Fabre.
