Let us embark on a fascinating journey into the heart of the world’s desert environments. From the iconic Sahara to the polar deserts, via the Gobi and the Atacama, deserts—whether of sand, stone, salt, or ice—are found on every continent. Covering over one-third of the Earth’s land surface, they are among the planet’s most magnificent and fragile ecosystems. Deserts fuel our imagination, yet despite their aridity, they are home to a great diversity of life—humans, animals, and plants—remarkably adapted to these extreme environments.
You said “desert”—but for whom? And what exactly are we talking about?
A radio program dedicated to the Deserts exhibition, on view at the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle until 30 November 2025.
