Inviting nature home

Vincent Battesti

For now: just three shots until I do the sorting in my albums.
There are at least two Egyptian areas where these heavenly natures invite themselves very often in the living rooms of domestic spaces: east and west, among the Bedouins of Sinai and the Bedouin in Marsa Matrouh and Isiwan of Siwa oasis.

The three following pictures were taken at Siwa, in January 2004 and November 2009, three marbu’aa, the living rooms, only rooms of a house designed to accommodate the male sociability. On the second snapshot, the room is specifically well-kept because it is the second day of the Aid al-Adha, the feast of sacrifice.

The posters of what we call here the mandhar tabi’i, natural landscapes, are glued directly on the wall of the reception room.

See the collection of posters on this page: Collection of fantasy landscapes posters.

See the lecture given in a séminal, end of 2011: In North Africa and the Middle East, To build, to dream and to anticipate his nature ... in order to escape the environment.
