This article follows a lecture Sound ambiances of Cairo: The public space of the Wast al-Balad (Downtown) given at the conference “Accords et à cris”, Études pluridisciplinaires sur la sonorité: usages, symboles, perceptions et normes in Decembre 2007 in Poitiers (France), at the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme et et de la Société.
It offers an access to public spaces of Cairo in Egypt through its soundscapes and will verify that the sound dimension can be analyzed by anthropology.

Here are offered some ambiance sound montages, short excerpts of Cairo soundscapes, associated with photomontages of places of the city.
